Creative!
I was picking Charlie up from his childminder last night and asked him to put his shoes on. He refused, and tried to put them on the wrong feet. I said "No, that's the wrong way, swap them over." His reply? "No, Mum, I'm using my IMAGINA-SHUN!"

Another joke
Forgot to write about this one a few days ago. Charlie's new joke:
- Why can't oranges live with olives?
- I don't know, why can't they?
- BECAUSE THEY'RE VERY DIFFERENT!! .... And that's the WHOLE joke!
Clearly he's been asked so many times "Is that the whole joke...?" that he's started pre-empting it with his claim that it is indeed the entire joke.
Mermaids
Charlie and I were just looking through a brochure for catering from M&S (riveting bedtime reading!) and he saw a cake with a mermaid on:

to which he said "Wow, that's a brilliant cake, can I have it for my birthday? Will you read about it to me?" So I started reading the little bit of information next to it, and it said 'Spoil your favourite girl with this cake...' or something along those lines. I stopped reading and looked at Charlie, about to explain why that was inappropriate and generally wrong when he laughed and laughed and said to me "Mermaids aren't just for girls, are they Mum, they're for EVERYONE!!" Now he keeps saying "Isn't it funny that the silly book said mermaids were for girls?! Are DOORS just for girls?! Are DINOSAURS just for girls?!" etc etc with random nouns in place of door/dinosaur.
I have to admit I was quite proud that I didn't even have to prompt him to realise that this was silly, and why it was silly too.

Wild Things
Just reading Where the Wild Things Are with Charlie and when it says Max got sent to bed without his supper, Charlie commented "Really, that was a bit naughty of Max's mummy, wasn't it?"

Another joke...
Charlie: (While knocking on my shoulder) "Knock, knock, who's in your shoulder?"
Me: "Erm, is this the start of a joke...?"
Charlie: "Yes, it's very good."
Me: "Ok, who's in my shoulder?"
Charlie: "Heaven Hall OR Scotland!!!"
Me: ".....?"

A couple of gems
At the moment he's coming out with things that make no sense until you trawl back through your memory to work out what he's talking about. Couple of examples:
"Mum, you know Shira lives in a silver rainbow?" .... I think he means Shira drives a silver Volvo, but I definitely like his version better!
While playing Lost in the Jungle*:
Charlie: "I'm very big, I have four legs with paws and claws, I go onto aeroplanes to scare people. And I have a big mane."
Me: "Erm ... are you ... a lion..?"
Charlie: "YEEEES!"
Me: "But lions don't go on planes .... [realisation sinks in] Ohhhhhh I see!"
(The other day I told him lions live on the plains and this was clearly his interpretation.)
*For the uninitiated, Lost in the Jungle is a game Charlie and I made up when he was potty training. He chose a pack of pants which had some camouflaged ones in and I joked "Oh, they'll be useful then, for when you get lost in the jungle!" This made Charlie very very upset as he thought that if he wore pants he would end up lost in a jungle, so I had to turn 'Lost in the Jungle' into something positive pretty quick so that he would put pants on! Basically you 'be an animal' and the other people playing have to guess what you are. Cue very confusing games when it's Charlie's turn to describe, saying things like "I'm very big, I live in the sea, I've got 5 legs and I'm very small." Then claiming he was being an ant or something similar.

Snuggling
Haven't posted in ages, must get some pictures from Charlie's new camera up, but had to post this conversation I just had with him while reading him a story in bed:
Charlie: Do you like snuggling down in bed?
Me: Yes, I do, do you?
Charlie: Yes, it's good isn't it? Which kind of snuggling do you like best?
Me: Well, I didn't know there were different kinds, what kinds are there?
Charlie (counting on his fingers): Well, there's bed snuggling, and ....... bad snuggling.
Me: Well, then I definitely like bed snuggling best.
Charlie: Yes, bad snuggling isn't very good is it?
